A rich fusion of culture, tradition and history, Pakistani music is derived from diverse elements and various musical influences. Within this dynamic musical environment, Coke Studio has emerged as a musical fusion platform of exciting elements and influences, ranging from traditional eastern, modern western and regionally inspired music coming together to form a distinctive Pakistani sound. Bringing alive the magic of live recordings and performances, Coke Studio prides itself on providing a musical platform which seeks to bridge barriers, celebrate diversity, encourage unity and instil a sense of Pakistani pride. Coke Studio is indeed an inspired step by Coca-Cola for having created a platform where renowned as well as upcoming and less mainstream musicians from various genres can collaborate musically.
Join the Coke Studio journey, as we broaden our horizons to encompass a wider circle — an expanding sphere of diversity, culture and tradition. Central to our third edition is the need to explore the intricacies of inspiration, creation and evolution, and to discover how the elements of reason, will, resolve and form come together and culminate in the realization of dreams and goals. True to the desire to retain and revere individuality, Coke Studio’s wings span the entire breadth and length of our soil: from the rugged custodians of the Sufic tradition to suave urbane men and women, from indigenous ballads to universal kalams. This season as the wheel rotates, a growing palette of unique colors, flavors and sounds come together and contribute to enrich the Coke Studio circle. Come and be a part of the sea change as once again we connect distinct and varied styles, ethnicities and identities and link them with that one common denominator — Music.

Summer Jam was also plugged by numerous solos by Aamir, Momo and Gumby. These displays were a method through which the musicians communicated not only amongst themselves but also with their audience.

All I want to do is rock! Musicians par excellence Gumby, Omran Shafique, Khalid Khan and others come together with the reclusive and legendary Aamir Zaki for a musical fiesta

Karachi
Sunday night, Karachi experienced something, which doesn’t happen a lot. A spontaneous, chilled out blues, rock jam session for a niche crowd at the Pakistan American Cultural Center (PACC). And that too with a man who can make guitars weep and dance, celebrate and mourn with explosive verve and nerve. When he plays live, its no ordinary day. The man is the guitar wizard Aamir Zaki. This night he was in the limelight and he proved why he needs to be there more often. {Read More…}

Fire Records & Coke Studio reject Aunty Disco Project
Disappointment
Aunty Disco Project
It’s amazing how the incredible highs of performing live come together with the incredible lows of… well everything else. While we were still riding high on the success of our Peeru’s show, we got hit by some pretty disappointing news. Now we’ve been through a lot of shit in the last 2 years but the following bits of news really hit me hard personally.
Fire Records rejects us for a record deal.
Yeah I know. For the less acquainted among you, Fire Records is pretty much the only so called record label in Pakistan. There used to be a few a couple of years ago but none of them could make their financial models work. Fire Records comes under the Geo network, so they still get support from the other branches of the corporation. {Read More…}
ADP is struggling rock band from Karachi, Pakistan. ADP is Omar Bilal Akhtar (OBA – Vocals/Guitars/ Bass), Omar Khalid (OK – Drums/Guitar) and Yasir Qureshi (Darbuka/ Percussion). ADP is one of my favorite bands of today. Imran Lodhi was previous vocalist of ADP. He is working on his solo album these days. One of the reasons for their popularity was darbuka madness that Yasir Qureshi used to make. I really like their stuff a lot and I rate them above most of the underground bands of today. Nazar and Sultanat is recommended stuff even though I like all of their songs.
